Frequently Asked Questions

What takes place during a massage?
On the initial visit, the therapist will complete an intake interview with the client.  During this interview, the therapist will review the intake form, discuss any medical conditions, find out why the client is requiring massage/bodywork, and occasionally perform a postural analysis.  After this interview, the therapist will explain what will take place during the massage/bodywork session.  The therapist will leave the room while the client undresses to their level of comfort and gets on the massage table, under the sheets.

Will lotion or oil be used?
A light, unscented oil (usually Fractionated Coconut Oil) will be used to enable the therapist to work on your muscles without causing excessive friction to the skin.  The oil will moisten the skin and is usually absorbed before the session is finished.
No lotion or oil is used during a Myofascial Release session.

How long will the session last?
The average full-body massage lasts approximately 60 minutes.  Allow an extra 15 minutes for questions you may have or any discussion that may be necessary between you and the therapist.

What should I wear or bring for my session?
Generally, you will not need to bring any additional clothing.  If you are receiving a massage you will undress to your comfort level and your therapist will provide draping (by North Carolina law) in a manner that ensures your safety, comfort, and privacy.  If you are receiving a Myofascial Release session, you will be instructed to brings shorts and /or sports bra to allow for increased freedom in providing the necessary bodywork to obtain optimal results.

Do I need to make an appointment?
I am currently conducting my practice by appointment only.  However, there are occasions when I might be able to see a client on short notice (usually 1 hour).  You can contact me by phone at 336.491.1286 or by email at
Tom.Lanier@RenaissanceMT.com

Where are you located?
I am currently located at 108 East Bessemer Ave. in Greensboro, NC (1 block off North Elm Street near Cone Hospital).

What is your cancellation policy?
I try in every event to be understanding of circumstances that are out of your control.  I do prefer at least 24 hour notice, but same day notification is still appreciated.  The first late cancellation or no-show is waived.  In the event of subsequent late cancellations I would expect financial compensation for my time.
